Nizwa
Nizwa is the largest city in the Ad Dakhiliyah region, and is also one of the oldest cities in Oman. This means that it is left with much historical heritage to marvel at! In particular, there are many mosques that embellish the landscapes with their spiritual beauty.
Some of the most famous include the ‘Sultan Qaboos Jama’, the ‘So’al Mosque’ and the Ash-Sharja Mosque, and visiting these makes for an inspiring day out that will leave you feeling a connection with Oman’s traditions and past.
Nowadays, Nizwa has many modern facilities, with colleges, a university, a hospital and hotels. Known as a centre for growing dates much of the environment is very green and vibrant, with a refreshing atmosphere. A main attraction in the area is a lavish souq that sells a plethora of handcrafts and fresh produce. Of all the things Nizwa creates however, their silver jewellery is supposed to be the best in the country!
Nizwa is a main gateway to many places around Oman, with nearby old villages like Tanuf worth a visit to see some of the magnificent seasonal waterfalls. Nizwa mainly stands on its own though as a peaceful retreat in the middle of the country, with a warm and welcoming vibe.
